Building real-world structured apps that scale with AngularJS

The above code makes use of the expressions “{{“and “}}” to return variable values. Expressions allow executing any computation to return any desired value.

Using directives

The ng-attributes are not seen in a typical markup. They are directives that inform AngularJS to assign a behavior to a DOM element. In the above code:

  • The ng-app directive is liable for bootstrapping the app that defines its scope. In AngularJS, there are multiple apps on the same page, hence this directive defines where each distinct app starts and ends.
  • The ng-controller directive defines the controller that will be in charge of the view.

The ng-repeat directive is used often and defines the template scope when it loops through collections. In the example above, it repeats a line in the table for all drivers in driversList.

Controllers

To view, add controllers to controllers.js:

The variable $scope passes as a parameter to the controller. It is supposed to link the controller and views. It holds the data that is used within the template. When the data is added to the list, it will be directly accessible in the view.

Initialize the app and register the modules using the following code:

Now, add it in the main html file:

Loading data from the server

Once the controller’s data is put on the view, the next step would be to fetch the live data from the server. To initiate communication with HTTP servers, AngularJS provides the services $http and $resource. The $http is a layer on top of XMLHttpRequest or JSONP. The $resource provides a higher level of abstraction.
