Crowd Q&A is a free question and answer knockout contest. You answer one question a day and if your answer is the majority answer you are prompted to continue in the contest.
The contest ends when there is only one person left. A new contest starts every day. Currently contests are open to USA residents who are aged 18 and above. There is only one account allowed per person. Contests last until there is only one player left; the winner of the contest. Each day at 7 am EST results from the previous question is calculated and a new question is posted to continue the contest.
The Crowd Q&A web application was a daily Q&A app, with a very complex business logic, which created a daily set of users, the majority would advance and the minority would drop out based on the crowd’s response
Our innovative solution was to create an algorithm, which tracked the crowd responses and updated the state nightly. This was a play on a Finite state machine. The workflow was inspired by Mechanical Turk
The application was deployed on Amazon AWS Beanstalk. The application performed flawlessly under heavy load. The business logic was flexible enough to be tweaked from a powerful user admin panel.
